Most golfers spend more time driving to the course than they do actually practicing. That's the thing about the short game - it's the part of your round that makes or breaks your score, and it's also the easiest part to work on at home. That's exactly what we set out to build here.
The homeowners wanted their patio area to do more than just look nice. They wanted it to work. So we built a large, multi-hole putting green right off the back door - complete with a sand infill for realistic ball response and a fringe surround that separates the putting surface from the surrounding landscape. The result is a setup where you can chip in from the fringe or work on your lag putting, all without leaving the property.
One thing we take seriously on greens this size is seam management. The bigger the green, the harder it is to hide the seams - and visible seams are one of the biggest things that separate a professional install from a DIY job. On a large green like this, getting that right takes real attention to how the turf is laid, cut, and secured. When it's done properly, the surface reads as one continuous piece.
What also makes this setup work is how well it integrates with the rest of the outdoor space. The curving edges follow the natural flow of the patio and rock borders rather than fighting against them. The green doesn't feel like it was dropped in as an afterthought - it feels like it was always supposed to be there. That's the difference between just installing turf and actually designing a space.
